Storytelling and Story Selling: Horror Reader Interviews David Morrell

August 29, 2005 By Johnathon Williams

Author David Morrell is no stranger to fans of the thriller genre, which he has dominated since the 1974 release of First Blood, the novel that introduced the world to the Rambo character. His most recent novel, Creepers, finds the veteran storyteller stepping across genre boundaries to mix horror and thriller elements as he follows a group of urban explorers into a dilapidated hotel. Morrell has coordinated an extensive marketing campaign for the book, including an online game, print and television ads, and a survival kit. He spoke to us about how book marketing has changed during his 30-year career and why he believes that authors today must take an active role in marketing their works if they want to survive.
